Phoenix based Amazon has just unveiled it’s competitor to the streaming media ring, and no it’s not the dongle previously speculated, it’s a set-top box much like Roku 1 -3.
Fire TV features:
- Quad-core processor
- Dedicated GPU
- 2gb of RAM
- Dual-band Wi-Fi with MIMO (for instant downloading and streaming of apps and videos)
- 1080p HD
- Dolby Digital Plus surround sound
- Remote with built-in Bluetooth
- Voice Search
“Tiny box, huge specs, tons of content, incredible price—people are going to love Fire TV,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. Bezos continued by praising the Voice Search saying, “Voice search that actually works means no more typing on an alphabet grid.”
The entire breakdown of the Amazon set-top box can be found in the companies press release here, and Fire TV can be ordered for $99 here. This sounds like some healthy competition for Roku and Chromecast. Now the question remains, who will be the first to offer a device with 4K capability?
